PASS Summit 2019!
PASS Summit is back! This year, the most important event around the world about Microsoft Data Platform will be held again in Seattle (WA) from 5 to 8 of November, 2019 and it will be preceded from two days of pre-conference at November 4 and 5.
Every year more and more IT Professionals, Technicians, Analysts and Data Scientists consider this event as a unique opportunity to connect to other people that have the same passion, share the experience and the problems their face at work and learn even more in the Microsoft Data Platform.
Do not forget that you will also have the opportunity to meet people that work in the SQL Server Product Team. I want to share with you the experience I have done during the PASS Summit 2018.
Last year, I spent some time in the SQL Clinic area, where the SQLCAT Team is available to clarify your doubts and to answer your questions on the entire Data Platform, from the SQL Server Engine to the Power BI. I talked with Arvind Shyamsundar (Twitter | Blog) and Conor Cunningham about the use of the In-Memory Optimized Table, a powerful technology that can be applied also to temporary tables that an application generates automatically to store the intermediate results of a processing, or to save the output of a calculation. Thanks to the Service Pack 1 of SQL Server 2016 (and following versions), SQL Server In-Memory Technology is available, with some limitations, also in the Standard Edition. We talked about when and why it is appropriate to manage Hash Indexes and the sizing of the BUCKET_COUNT in a temporary table. We also talked about how the application can behave and modify its behavior when an instance of SQL Server Standard Edition reports to the application an “error” due to the reaching the RAM memory limit for the In-Memory Optimized Table. The Enterprise Edition of SQL Server is rarely present in the medium-sized companies and my intention was to find out a solution for this issue (in non-Enterprise Edition) at the application level. As always, I appreciated the high technical skill of the people I spoke to!
What other event gives you the opportunity to discuss about these topics with such people? Are you thinking these people are too busy for talking with you? Nobody of these names from SQL Server Product Team walk away if you try to meet and talk them, especially in front of a beer in one of Seattle’s pubs!
The CTP 3.2 of SQL Server 2019 is out, it has amazing features, it runs both on Windows and Linux, this conference is a great opportunity to explore the new features of SQL Server 2019 and to better understand the features already released in the previous versions as well.
If you want to evaluate topics and contents delivered at this conference, you can see some of the sessions held during the last edition on the PASStv YouTube channel.
Are you a beginner with SQL Server or a “first timer” at PASS Summit? Do not worry there are many sessions of level 100 and 200, and “first timers” can count on the “First Timers Guidebook” that it will arrive soon!
What kind of sessions can you expect to find at the PASS Summit 2019? Find it out by the recording sessions of the last 24 Hours of PASS named “20 Years of PASS”, each video is available on detail page of the related session here.
